Security as a Service For All Businesses

Why Network Audits Should Not Be Overlooked

Have you tested your network security in the last 3 years? How about within the last year? The last 3 months? It can be argued that network security audits should be performed quarterly at the very least, but the best strategy is to have a 24/7/365 network security engineer monitoring your network at all times.

While cyber-security is at the forefront of concerns for CIOs and IT professionals, security initiatives are often poorly executed or pushed to the back burner altogether. Small budgets, a lack of expertise, and vendor management all can create security headaches and can also leave your network prone to penetration and intrusion.

The growth of cyber-attacks, security concerns

Your network (all of the people and devices connected over the internet, WAN, LAN, etc.) probably experiences daily cyber-attacks. The largest companies undoubtedly face thousands of cyber-attacks each day. The importance of network security cannot be underrated. Additionally, according to a Forbes report, 80% of enterprises now allow employees to use personal devices to connect to corporate networks or a bring-your-own-device model. This is becoming a modern demand of employees and will become even more common as younger generations reach the workforce. The use of personal devices at work creates concerns for IT managers as it pertains to device compatibility, bandwidth, and most importantly, network security.

Network security also impacts life away from the office. For example, while accessing public WIFI at cafés or airports where the network connection is not secure or encrypted, it is NEVER advised to access sensitive information over your smartphone or computer. Anyone else using that public WIFI, with the know-how, could gain access to your bank information, credit cards, and other personal information.

Network traffic coming from China, Ukraine, and other countries that notoriously deploy cyber-attacks is a real threat impacting organizations’ networks. In addition, ransomware, malware, and viruses deployed via email and encrypted links, present network security concerns. Imagine a hacker accessing your organization’s most important data and leveraging it for ransom or using it against you. To get a picture of some of the most serious cyber-security concerns, The Center for Strategic & International Studies shows a list of these incidents in 2018.
